The hub team and panelists for the ECHO for Educators: Enhancing K-12 Mental Health Support track.
Tamika Zapolski, PhD, HSPP
Dr. Tamika Zapolski, PhD, HSPP (she/her) is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Director of Community Engagement for the Psychiatry Department's Adolescent Behavioral Health Research Program. She conducts most of her work in collaboration with community organizations and individuals across the state. Dr. Zapolski is also a clinician working in both the pediatric and adult clinics through IU Health, with clinical expertise in substance use, emotion dysregulation, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for both youth and adults. Additionally, she is the Founder and Director of the Indiana University School of Medicine's Youth Coalition (YoCo), which provides mentorship, training, and leadership opportunities related to youth mental health to individuals aged 13-18 of diverse backgrounds in the Indianapolis area.
Sally Fleming
Dr. Sally Fleming is a licensed psychologist and school psychologist. She has over a decade of experience in the school setting, evaluating students for special education services. Dr. Fleming now serves in a clinical role as an assistant professor of psychiatry at Riley Hospital. She sees children/adolescents with mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and OCD/anxiety disorders. She also serves in a teaching role with third-year medical students during their psychiatry preceptorship rotation.
Chelsea English, LCSW
Chelsea English is a licensed clinical social worker with 10 years of experience in K-12 schools. She graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Social Work degree. She has been on the board of the Indiana School Social Work Association for 5 years as legislative chair and president. She has provided professional development to other school social workers on advocacy strategies and Indiana's legislative process. She is passionate about helping students reach their goals and change the world.
Dustin Shannon
Dustin Shannon teaches high school math and AVID at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. He has been there for 18 years teaching almost all levels of math, currently working with Algebra 2 and AP Statistics. He is a SIOP trainer as well as an AVID elective teacher. He recently took on the role of co-leader of the new teacher education program at his school. He just celebrated 14 years of marriage with his wife, Sarah, who also teaches math at Ben Davis. In his free time, Dustin enjoys traveling, reading, and doing hot yoga. He grew up in Topeka, Kansas, and graduated from the University of Indianapolis, where he played soccer for the Greyhounds.
Jeff Raissle
Jeff Raissle is a graduate of Indiana State University with a bachelor's degree in English education. He began his career teaching at Sarah Scott Middle School in Terre Haute where he spent most of his years teaching 8th grade English. He also coached track and cross country and served as Athletic Director. After moving to the Indianapolis area, Jeff taught at Crispus Attucks High School, where he was Freshman Team Leader. He is currently teaching at Fall Creek Valley Middle School as an 8th grade English teacher once again, and he serves as Team Lead, Advisor Lead, New Teacher Mentor, and as a D3 Department Lead.
Laura Franklin, MA
Laura Franklin is one of two Neurodiversity Specialists at Covered Bridge Special Education District, which serves Vigo County Schools and South Vermillion Community Schools. She earned her BS in Elementary Education and Special Education from Ball State in 2011 and her MA in Applied Behavior Analysis with an emphasis in Autism from Ball State in 2018. Before starting the Neurodiversity Specialist position, Laura was a special education teacher for 12 years. She spent her first six years as a resource teacher at Central Elementary in South Vermillion Community Schools and the next six years as a self-contained teacher at Center School. Center School is a behavioral day treatment program serving students in the Covered Bridge Special Education District. She has been married to her husband, Patrick, for seven years. They were foster parents for four years and adopted their beautiful 4-year-old daughter, Hannah, in 2023. Laura is passionate about trauma-informed practices and figuring out the why behind student behavior.
Terri Miller, PhD
Dr. Terri Miller recently retired from being the assistant director at Hamilton Boone Madison Special Services Cooperative. Terri has been involved with developing crisis response protocols in a variety of school districts in Indiana. She is an Emotional CPR Trainer and NASP-PREPaRE School Related Crisis Response Trainer and is a Certified Mind Body Medicine Facilitator. Terri is on the Board of Noble and Allies of Indiana. She earned her Ph.D. from Ball State University in the areas of school psychology and counseling and completed a certification in Applied Educational Neuroscience. This certification addresses the importance of human relationships, understanding our stress responses and strategies to build resilience.
Christy Halls
Christy Halls is a dedicated Kindergarten teacher with 28 years of experience in elementary education. She graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1996 and has since established herself as a respected educator in the community. Christy was honored as the Vigo County Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2021 as well as a top 25 finalist for Indiana Teacher of the Year. Currently teaching at Lost Creek Elementary, Christy is not only committed to her classroom but also contributes to educational advancement through leadership roles. She served as a pilot teacher for the TOTAL Program (Teachers of Tomorrow Advancing Learning) at Indiana State University and has been a member of the selection panel for prospective students of this prestigious initiative. Christy has a passion for fostering a love of learning and is dedicated to helping shape future educators.
